In this article we compare hardwood worktops and granite worktops to see which would be the best choice for your home.

Hardwood worktops can bring a rustic and natural beauty to your home and this is proven by the extreme popularity of this type of worktop over the years, many people have historically chosen hardwood worktops and many people still do because of the look and feel of them.

By comparison granite worktops will also bring a natural beauty but with more of a elegant feel rather than a rustic feel. Granite is becoming increasingly popular and one of the reasons for this is that the patterns and colours can be totally unique to you due to the fact that no two pieces of granite will ever be identical.

When it comes to durability hardwood worktops are very good, especially one waterproofed, and scratches can be removed by sending down the worktop and refinishing it; obviously one thing that should be considered is that deep scratches can take a lot of work to get out and could cause the worktops, on occasion, to need to be replaced.

Granite is one of the hardest materials on earth and as such can stand up to a lot more than its wooden counterpart. This is very difficult to scratch granite worktop and under normal use this should never be a problem for you. Because of its durability granite requires very little maintenance with the exception of the sealant being used on it once every 6 to 12 months.

When it comes to cost you will find a granite is quite expensive in comparison to hardwood worktops; this does however require a little bit more of an explanation.

If you choose a hardwood worktop over granite worktops then you will find that they will need replacing twice as often and therefore as a long-term investment you will find that granite is the most cost-effective choice.

Overall, I would recommend that you opt for granite when choosing a workshop for your kitchen based on the above information. You will find it to be more durable and longer lasting even if it is a little more expensive in the short term.
