With so many options in countertops these days

There are a wide variety of countertop materials available, but we will be focusing on stone countertops. Each has benefits as well as special care options. The costs can also be a factor when you are selection kitchen countertops.

Stone such as soapstone and granite are quite popular for natural counters. These can be polished to a high sheen or left unprocessed, and lend a special touch to any kitchen. Marble, slate and quartz can also be used, but granite is the most durable of the lot and tends to be used more often.

Porous stones such as limestone absorb stains easily and can be very difficult to clean. While all stone is somewhat absorbent, granite is among the least porous. All stone countertops will need to be sealed before use. The cool stone is perfect for rolling out dough and making candy. You don't have to worry about damaging the surface with hot items such as pots and pans, either.

Bio glass cab be used for backsplashes because of its stunning appearance, but can also be used on the actual countertop. Bio glass comes in a variety of standard colors. It is available as either a lightly-textured or smooth surface. They are very easy to clean, non-porous and slip-resistant - which is perfect for kitchen countertops. Bio-glass can also be used for other areas in the home such as the fireplace surround, flooring, walls and more.

There are a few specialty countertops that we haven't mentioned here, but the materials listed above are by far the most commonly used in households around the world.
