We all try and keep our kitchens clutter-free, but in some cases we find we have too many utensils to contain or either have too much free space available.

A useful tip is have a fitted kitchen installed, and while not cheap, will save time deciding on what surfaces should go where, creating a sense of harmony and attractiveness. But you still have the task of deciding where to place your utensils.

It is best to hide away bulkier items from sight and if you have any shelves, place glassware and crockery on these to display and for easier reach, or in a cabinet instead. You should also make sure that when using cabinets, all available space is used up.

Any large cooking utensils such as pots and pans place near or under the oven in the available drawers. Furthermore, ensure that, when dealing with utensils and cutlery, they are organised and easy to locate, such as using an installed wall organiser.

If you find your kitchen looks too cluttered, try and put any unwanted items away and if appropriate, shift things around for the best look.

Surfaces and colour scheme

When you choose a colour scheme for your walls, it makes the task of choosing the type of materials and surfaces easier to settle on. One of the most used surfaces in your kitchen is your worktop, so it is good to shop around to find the best one with high durability and which is also easy to maintain over the following years; the most popular choices of which are laminate or granite.

However, a worktops strengths matter less to the look of the kitchen than the actual colour. To get the best ambience, it should suit the surroundings of the room, for example marble would go with white walls, blending in nicely for a lovely modern look.

The floor should also fit in with the colour scheme: if the walls and surfaces are a bronze colour, it is best to decide on a wood floor or more alternatively a tiled floor, with brownish colours. Virtually all cupboards and drawers are also made from wood, which is a good choice seeing as how wood can be painted to match surrounding colours.

LED lightning is the most stylish, efficient and popular form of brightening up your kitchen, allowing brilliant levels of light. Aside from being positioned on the ceiling, they can also be placed on the bottom of shelves and cupboards, allowing a unique ambience.
