A bathroom sink with slow drainage will eventually turn into a bathroom sink without drainage.
The good news is that it\'s easy to clear the bathroom sink in about ten minutes.
Follow the steps below to make your sink drain again as new.
Step 1: The tools you need you only need a few basic tools to clear the bathroom sink.
The first tool is a pair of channel locks.
This is a pair of tongs, and the gripper will expand to at least 4 \".
You can also use it if you have a pipe wrench, but I would recommend a channel lock if you need to purchase any of them.
For most projects around the house, they are a more common tool.
The price of a pair of channel locks should be below $10 and can be found in most hardware stores.
Other tools you need can be found around the house.
The first is a small barrel and a metal hanger or a hard wire.
Step 2: Be ready to clear the bathroom first and most importantly clean everything under the sink.
You need space to move around when disconnecting the drain line.
The next thing is to put the bucket under the drain to catch any water coming out.
The last thing you should do is take a rag or paper towel to clean up the garbage you will inevitably encounter.
Step 3: disconnect the bathroom sink drain line when you see the drain line from the bathroom sink you will see it forming a \"U\" shape at the bottom.
This is called the pea trap.
You should have a large plastic or metal nut on either side or side of the pea trap.
Use your channel lock to loosen the nut and carefully remove the pea trap.
You may get some water at this point, but it should not exceed the water trapped in the pipe.
Check and clear any debris in the pea trap.
Step 4: disconnect the stem pipe from the bathroom SinkThe stem pipe is a straight pipe that comes directly from the bottom of the sink.
If you have a plug in your bathroom sink, you need to remove it first.
There should be a nut in the plug ball.
Loosen the nut and pull out the rod with the ball.
Now take out the plug from the sink above and clean up any debris.
Now you can disconnect the rod tube.
Most stem pipes have threaded connections and should not be too tight.
Try to loosen it with your hands first.
If it is too tight, gently loosen the pipe using the Channel Lock.
Bathroom sink pipes are fragile, so try not to put too much force on them to avoid pipe breaking or bending and stripping the threads.
Step 5: clean everything that is clogged with the bathroom sink, whether in a pea trap or in a stem tube.
Clean up any debris on the side of these pipes with your rag and hanger.
Now go to another sink and pass the hot water through the tube and clean every part you remove.
Step 6: put everything back in place, and now put everything back in reverse order.
Put the plug back in the sink first.
When inserting a ball stopper, try to pass the ball\'s rod through the hole in the top stopper.
Slowly move the sink plug up and down until you feel it\'s moving along.
Fix it down with a nut and insert the other side into the back stopper handle.
Remember to be gentle when connecting the bathroom sink pipe.
Most bathroom drains do not require threaded tape or putty to seal, but you can use it if you want.
Tighten the nut with your hand and gently tighten it with the channel lock.
Step 7: Test the bathroom SinkThe last step is to re-open the water after everything is connected.
Check the leak and tighten the pipe if needed.
Congrats that you have just saved yourself the cost of a plumber and have taken another step towards becoming a professional plumber.
