A kitchen, for example, needs to be bright and cheery. You cannot cook or wash dishes properly without having the proper lighting. There are a number of varieties and styles to choose from, including fluorescent, under or over cabinet, ceiling and pot lighting. Depending on the size of your kitchen you may want to use a combination of these to give you the maximum amount of brightness you need.
A living room or family room needs a bit of a softer look. Dimmer switches can help with this effect. Table lamps and wall lighting can create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Compact fluorescent varieties are a good fit for living rooms or family rooms.
LED's are perfect for the bathroom; they can be placed around the mirror and provide an excellent way to do your face and hair. Brighter light bulbs can be placed on the ceiling for extra light when you need it.
Bedrooms need a mix of light bulbs, depending on the size of the room. Brightness is needed in closets, so you can pick out black pants instead of brown, or vice versa! Halogen may work very well for this purpose. For nights spent reading in bed, you want a softer bulb so you do not suffer any eye strain. Choose from simple table lamps to swing arm, wall mounted styles.
Do not forget about coverings and shades; you can purchase the brightest lights available, but if you put a dark shade or covering over it, the brightness you desire may not shine through. Choose lighter shades, and white covers for ceiling fixtures if possible.
Your home office needs more localized lighting; the room is probably equipped with a computer, which gives off some light, and you do not usually need brightness in the whole room, just where you are working. LED'S will give you the right amount of light every time.
Choosing the right light bulbs is very important when you are planning the overall decor of your home. Each room will benefit from different styles and brightness levels.
